Life and learning is a continuing journey. Only death will put a stop to our journey. We can stand up every time we stumble or we can pause for a break and begin our journey once again. Life will become more challenging and exciting if we will push our selves to unknown limits. We should not be afraid to fail. God is so kind that we made us all born winners. To win is our destiny, but to fail is our own choice and doing.

“POLITICAL DYNASTY + BUSINESS DYNASTY + CORRUPTION = POVERTY”

Monopoly and control of seats in government and ownership of businesses of the same group of families and individuals means that there exist an undesirable situation where a nation is being ruled and governed by a few elite families who have successfully organized and established dynasties in business and politics.

The above mentioned situation or condition coupled by massive corruption in every layers and seats of government will simply mean that the gap of the rich and the poor is as wide as heaven and earth.

How do we remedy the situation? Is change for the better still possible? Can we individually and collectively influence the result of 2013 election?

Do we exercise our rights to participate in political exercises? Do we carefully choose and vote for political candidates that we think will serve the best interest of our country and our people? Are we matured and serious enough to bring the changes we want in our society?

More than 6 decades ago Nagasaki and Hiroshima Japan were both instantly obliterated and annihilated by American Atomic bombs. It was not just physical destruction, but was accompanied by long term ill effects of radiation that enveloped both befallen places.

Today both Nagasaki and Hiroshima are 2 of the most livable modern places in the world. Manila in the Philippines, Detroit in USA and Lagos in Nigeria just for comparison were all very, very far left behind considering that the latter 3 mentioned places did not suffer the same horrible fate as experienced by Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

It is worthy to note that Japan does not have and do not encourage a welfare type system of government. The Japanese people are known for their disciplines and hard work and will choose to work to feed themselves rather than to rely on mendicancy and feeding program of certain governments.

Certainly there is no Conditional Cash Transfer in Japan as compared to the billions of peso CCT program of the Philippines. Neither there is a long queue of people in Japan asking for government support as is widely practice in the United States of America.

2013 mid-term election in the Philippines is fast approaching. Do we take time to know the candidates that we are supposed to elect and be given a seat in the government? Do we have the confidence to declare that the persons we will vote for are the right and qualified people to serve the Filipino people?

Are we going to vote for politicians that represents the face of business dynasty, political dynasty and corruption in our society?

Will the sons, daughter, relatives and in-laws of proven corrupt politicians will work to recover the ill gotten wealth of their patriarch or matriarch once they are in the seat of power as well? Will these candidates that will serve as extension of political dynasties possess the will and courage to jail their own blood and or at the very least put into play fair business practices?

Political dynasties will naturally not loosen their grief to power. Political dynasties by instinct will protect the interest, accelerate the growth and diversify the business empire of the family. Members of political dynasties will cling to power as they have been used to an unusually special kind of lifestyle that only the richest of the rich and the people in the prime seat of power can enjoy.

Creating a favorable environment for business dynasties and political dynasties to healthily flourish is like courting disasters and playing with devious hell fire. Almost everyone who possesses in his hands the money, power, authority and effective control of seats of government will be tempted to bathe in the well of corruptions. Absolute power corrupts. Absolute power takes advantage over the weak.

The seemingly nationalist economic provision in the constitution that prohibits foreigners to have a controlling ownership share in big ticket businesses discourages foreign direct investments, but favors and encourages few elite Filipino families to build formidable business dynasties.

The above described flawed constitutional provision strengthen the hold of business dynasties and emboldened them to take the necessary steps to either maintain the status quo or to further their interest by controlling as well the government through a well oiled and fully controlled political dynasties of which in many instances are also members of their families. Those who seats at the helm of business and politics are usually the political king makers. The priority is not to eradicate poverty, but to perpetuate the hold to absolute power.

Are we going to vote for politicians who have supported spending the hard earned tax payers ’money through a law that legislate the purchase of hundreds of millions of condoms and contraceptives instead of using our taxes wisely by creating jobs that will subsequently improve the lives of our poor people?

Reproductive Health Bill must be repealed. We should not encourage a culture of sex without responsibility. Life is sacred. God’s greatest gift to us is life. Man should be able to control his desires and appetite for sex. The government should not allow a culture of sexual gratification at the expense of taxpayers.

RH Bill will deeply ingrain a condom and contraceptive mentality and the huge fund allocated to it will be an attractive wicked tool of temptations and corruptions. There are many existing good laws that will protect the children, the women and the poor that simply needs budget and proper implementation. I loudly say no to free condoms, repeal the misleading Responsible Parenthood Law widely known as the RH Bill.

Are we going to vote for politicians who possess the guts and courage to distribute our hard earned tax money in CCT programs that will simply not change the lives of the poorest of the poor? When government requires at least 50% of the people to work hard and support the other half of the people who simply do not want to work hard, then our society will certainly fall victim to the claw of poverty and corruptions. Indeed the adage of teaching how to fish is definitely better than giving regular fish dole outs.

The allocation of huge funds which is much higher than compared to previous years for Conditional Cash Transfer or CCT can be deduced either the population of the poorest of the poor is either growing tremendously or is necessary to fill the pockets of corruption and or will be used as an election tool to lure beneficiaries to vote for the administration’s candidates.

Whether CCT can at least temporarily alleviate the sufferings of the identified poorest of the poor is still unacceptable because there are other better means by which the government can make use of the huge funds of CCT particularly in generating semi-permanent or permanent jobs intended also for the poorest of the poor or identified poorest province, town or cities.

Instituting additional taxes and left and right increase in government fees and permits will lead to the dwindling of middle class. It will just likewise make the poor poorer and prolong the pains and agonies of the majority of the populace. It also makes local businesses to be globally not competitive.

Do we know the formula of poverty? Do we know the root causes of poverty?

Any child who comes from a destitute family and whose parents simply find it too difficult to put foods on the table and is living in a country with a very high unemployment rate and where massive corruption is the general rule of the games and helplessly does not have a sound and practical job generation strategies is a strong candidate to perpetuate a generation of families afflicted by a social disease called poverty.

Job generation or job availability for all is still the best way for government to feed the hunger. If the large majority of the population has jobs or regular source of income then the people can feed their hungry mouths, put roofs on their heads, cloth their bodies, send their children to schools and be able to afford to buy medicines or get reasonable medical insurance so that the sick will not die without being attended and cared upon. Definitely, CCT is not the proper answer to alleviate poverty or lessen hunger incidence.

Indeed, monopoly and control of seats in government and ownership of businesses of the same group of families and individuals means that there exist a situation where a nation is being ruled and governed by a few elite families who have successfully organized and established dynasties in business and politics. The above mentioned situation or condition coupled by massive corruption in every layers and seats of government will simply mean that the gap of the rich and the poor is as wide as heaven and earth.

Certainly, the formula of poverty is: Poverty = Political Dynasty + Business Dynasty + Corruption.

I agree that ther should be no political dynasty. But I do not agree that there should be no RH bill simply because giving condoms to the least of our brethren is NOT A SIN. Life is when sperm meets egg; no meeting of egg and sperm, no life compromised. Am Catholic, too.

  2. Romeo David says:

Agree with the Dynasty part in full but not the comments on the RH Bill. In the old days when the Catholic Church went on crusades of theft and murder to gain power getting believers to make as many children as possible was a clear way to strengthen your power into the future, but the Catholic church has been listening to its own propaganda for so many years it has become completely out of step with the good of the people.
The Catholic Church remains the worlds most powerful tax free corporation, controlling countries, policies and people. What does the bible say about the antichrist?
