Die hard. Just like the movie, corrupt and evil political dynasties are hard to eliminate. With the use of ill gotten wealth and graft ridden resources at their disposal they will fight back. Indeed, they will fight back to the very end. They are like cats with seven (7) lives. They will simply live and will not die.
Shrewd and evil as they are, political dynasties are well entrenched in almost all layers of government, the police and the military. They control almost all critical and big ticket business enterprises. Not satisfied and given the opportunities, most of them will swallow and pocket even coins or pennies and let the poor masses to eat and or lick the dust of their shoes.
Never say never to an end in political dynasties.
Yes, I agree that not all dynasties in politics are evil and corrupt. A great number of them as well as most of the family members of political dynasties have been living a decently clean and very honest life. Nonetheless, almost all hands that held or will hold a dirty pot will get their hands dirtied at one time or the other.
Our law cannot rightfully define and identify any member of a political dynasty. Hence, you and I will likewise be unable to rightfully and legally identify if a politician is considered to be a member of a political dynasty as mentioned in our Constitution.
Simply because of legal infirmities and deficiencies, let it be known, clarified and openly declared that this article when it made mention of political dynasty or political dynasties, it only refer to and or talk about the members of political dynasties that are by law or through our courts of law have been proven corrupt and evil. Nonetheless, without naming names your guess is as good as mine.
Nonetheless, the long arms of the law seem so short as it always fail to catch one or two or any member of evil and corrupt political dynasties. Money not only makes people deaf and blind, it can also make tongues to speak lies. Money can silent a witness or witnesses and indeed can buy ones freedom.
Most members of political dynasties of course have lots of money and they are experts on how to move a heaven or earth. So they say, money can move not only mountains, but also enlist a huge army of blind and hungry followers or voters. Yesterday their cohorts can switch ballots boxes, today their cohorts will attempt to hack and change in their favor the electronic election results.
The provision of prohibition of political dynasties in the Constitution has elicited fierce and fiery debates. The long and winding legal arguments for and against are hard fought. Nonetheless, the results are half-baked, vague and toothless.
The framers of the Constitution at that time failed to bravely assume the responsibility to clearly define what a political dynasty mean. Undoubtedly they did not finish the job and instead relegated the daunting task to the lawmakers of our land. They end up in a compromise to reach an agreement for their disagreements.
Without clear definition and in the absence of an enabling law, the political dynasty provision is like a flower without fragrance. Indeed it is a cold fire or a hot ice. It is like giving births to children without names and therefore all has no identification, a Jane Doe or a John Doe in the legal parlance.
Never say never to an end in political dynasties.
Each election time, the great majority of our people will vote again and again for the names that rings a bell…mostly members of political dynasties. The results will be a continuing cycle and recycling of political dynasties.
Good or bad, political dynasties are prohibited in our Constitution. In the absence of a law that will rightfully define and effectively bar a member of a political dynasty in our electoral exercises we will not be able to say good-bye to political dynasties.
Unless and until our people will mature and learn to identify and vote for candidates that will serve the best interest of our people and our nation then we will never say never to political dynasties.
Unless and until the mass media will genuinely, deliberately and massively embark in an information campaign against political dynasties and help the people identify the right candidates that will serve the best interest of our people and our nation then we will never say never to political dynasties.
Unless and until the congress or the upper and lower houses of representatives enact an enabling law against political dynasties then we will never say never to political dynasties.
Unless and until the government can come up with a system that will level the playing field for all national and local candidates then we will never say never to political dynasties.
Unless and until all the members of political dynasties will learn to exercise “DELICADEZA” by not participating in political exercises out of respect both for our Constitution and our people then we will never say never to political dynasties.
Ending a political dynasty is undoubtedly a daunting task. We as a people both individually and collectively and with our hands joined together can effectively influence the result of an election.
The history speaks of a department secretary joined by a general and supported by a cardinal who called on all people of walks of life… priests, nuns, ordinary citizens, teachers, students, leftists, rightists, select police and military personnel plus the power of a group of strong upper and middle class and a widow of an assassinated opposition leader, indeed the coming together of all the aforesaid personalities have successfully toppled a dictator.
Today the challenge is to put an end to political dynasties. Together, let us never say never to an end in political dynasties.
