The well entrenched Estrada – Ejercito political dynasty dominates the San Juan City politics since 1967 when Erap first won the mayoralty race in the said city. For over 40 years, the Estrada – Ejercito clan have ruled the city and with the clans’ younger generation actively joining the political band wagon as well it seems that San Juan City is too small, very crowded and suffocating for the Estrada – Ejercito clan.
The patriarch former president Joseph ‘Erap’ Estrada looking to expand the geographical clout of the Estrada – Ejercito Clan has successfully wrested control of Manila City by besting Mayor Alfredo Lim in a bitterly contested 2013 mayoralty race.
By 2016, Jinggoy Estrada’s’ term in the senate will end. What are Jinggoys’ options? He can run as president, vice president or Manila’s mayor. He cannot simply return to San Juan City and asked the incumbents to give way for him. The Manila vice mayor, Isko Moreno, is simply not a problem as the Estrada’s can support and finance the bid of Isko Moreno to run for congress and then to the senate.
The just concluded 2013 midterm election saw a very big change in the Philippines political landscape. We saw a lot of famous political clans eased out of their positions in the national and local political scenes. The call for voting out political dynasties has created a loud noise in 2013. By 2016, the noise against political dynasties will become even louder.
Although Erap is expected to live a very long healthy life we cannot foresee the future. What will be the effect in the political muscle of the Estrada – Ejercito clan if and when Erap is out of the political scenes?
With the half-brothers senators Jinggoy and JV bitterly bickering whether for real or for reel will the two senators be able to sufficiently compensate vis-à-vis Erap magic if and when Erap is already out of political scenes?
I think it is high time for Erap, Jinggoy and JV to sit down and carefully plan for the future of the Estrada – Ejercito clan.
JV Ejercito Estrada was ranked 11th in the senate winning circles in the recently concluded 2013 election. With JV Landing in the 11th position is showing us a concrete sign that the Estrada – Ejercito brand is deteriorating in the national scene. It is a prelude of what will happen to Jinggoy Estrada if and when Jinggoy run either for president or vice president in the 2016 national election. Jinggoy might lose big time come 2016 if ever he dares to aspire for a higher national position.
Erap, Jinggoy and JV all joining hands are in a very favorable position right now to rejuvenate the Estrada – Ejercito brand in the national scene.
The three (3) need to combine their positions, power and resources to transform the City of Manila into a very progressive, peaceful, orderly and clean city. By using Manila as a showcase, the Estrada – Ejercito clan can demonstrate to all Filipinos what they can do for the Philippines if given another shot in the Philippines presidency.
Manila City can generate very huge revenue if managed properly. The combine fork barrel of the 2 senators, Jinggoy and JV amounts to 4 Hundred Million per year.
Hence, if the 3 combine all the government resources at their disposal they can make Manila a very great city. They can construct low cost medium rise buildings for the squatters and slum dwellers in Manila and employ the same squatters and slum dwellers as construction workers thus providing jobs and decent homes for Manila residents.
They can initiate various projects to generate millions of jobs for the Manila residents like embarking in a large scale clean and green program with the squatters and slum dwellers as the hired workers thus achieving the goal of providing jobs for Manila constituents while cleaning and greening the city.
They can embark in a large scale project of providing a better drainage system in the whole of Manila City thus preventing damaging floods to engulf the city of Manila during rainy seasons and devastating typhoons. This project will be an excellent disaster prevention program while at the same time creating thousands of jobs for Manila residents.
Improving the drainage system of the whole of Manila City will also have a very favorable effect in the cities adjoining and nearby Manila like Quezon City, San Juan City, Paranaque City, Pasay City, Mandaluyong City, Makati City and Caloocan City.
Hence, if the lowly residents of Manila will be busy with various jobs then peace and order in Manila will vastly improve. With most of the people in Manila employed, the parents can afford to send their children to schools thus the number of out-of-school-youth will sharply decline in just a short time.
The Estrada – Ejercito clan can also initiate a large scale industrial fish farming thus ensuring abundance of fish availability as a concrete effort to support programs on food security while providing jobs to thousands of manila residents. The facilities can be erected in nearby Manila Bay. This might be the first large scale industrial fish farm in the Philippines and can be replicated in all regions of the Philippines.
The big challenge for Erap is to sit down with his 2 senator sons and assert to his sons that there is strength in combining power. The rejuvenation of the Estrada – Ejercito brand is in the hands of Erap, Jinggoy and JV and with Erap in the helm of Manila the 3 is in the best position to win the hearts and minds of Manila and the whole Philippines.
Most of all, Jinggoy and JV should be a role model to our youths. The 2 senators should set aside their differences and be a good brother to each other.
If ever the Estrada – Ejercito clan led by Erap, Jinggoy and JV failed to combine their acts together then in the very near future they will suffer the same fate like the other political dynasties that have started to fall. Jinggoy and JV must realize that Erap will not live forever and the continuity in power of their clan will simply and most likely rest in their hands.
