“KUNG MARAMING MAHIRAP, MARAMING CORRUPT”

June 23rd, 2013 by Rowell Selegna | 1,238 views No Comments

The political slogan “KUNG WALANG CORRUPT, WALANG MAHIRAP” adopted by P’noy during his campaign run for the presidency in 2010 easily got him elected… plus of course he garnered a huge sympathy votes brought about by the death of his mother former president Cory Aquino.

Demonizing and tagging former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as the most corrupt of all that have been president of the Philippines has effectively put the 2010 Election as a run on “Good VS Evil” campaign with P’noy being featured as the great slayer of corruption.

The great slayer of corruption highlighted his first 3 years in office by placing former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo under hospital arrest, by effectively pressuring Mercedita Gutierrez to resign as ombudsman and by impeaching and removing the Chief Justice from his office.

The slogan “KUNG WALANG CORRUPT, WALANG MAHIRAP” has its magical good side. The downside of the slogan, however, was that it imprints to the mind of the electorate that corruption is the single root cause of poverty.

We know for a fact that the poverty rates in the Philippines remains unchanged. The number of poor people before P’noy assumed the office of the president remains the same and in fact is growing in number over 3 years hence. Despite the billions of pesos being poured by the government in the Cash Conditional Transfer (CCT), the number of people experiencing hunger is growing. Jobless people are everywhere in the whole of Philippine archipelago particularly in the rural areas.

If the poor are becoming poorer and is growing in number does this simply mean that corruption during P’noy administration is growing. “KUNG WALANG CORRUPT, WALANG MAHIRAP” Hence, “KUNG MARAMING MAHIRAP, MARAMING CORRUPT”

Indeed, it is very laudable to eradicate or to reduce to the barest the corruption in government. However, it does not follow that without corruption there will be no poor people. Otherwise, it will be safe to say that P’noy and his administration has failed or is a “BIG FAILURE” in stamping out corruption in government because of the glaring truth that the number of poor people in the Philippines has remains the same and or is increasing in number and becoming a lot poorer.

P’noy should be able to reduce corruption to the barest while at the same time be able to create jobs for the people. It is very simple to understand that it is job that puts foods to the table. It is job that provides the salary so that one can afford to rent a house, to buy foods and other necessities in life.

Will the right slogans be “KUNG LAHAT MAY TRABAHO, WALANG MAG-HIHIRAP” or “KUNG LAHAT AY MAY MAAYOS NA TRABAHO, WALANG MAG-HIHIRAP” or “KUNG ANG MGA TAMAD AY MAGTRATRABAHO AT MAY MAKIKITANG MAAYOS NA TRABAHO, ANG LAHAT AY HINDI MAG-HIHIRAP”?
